Define the color red…

The hue of the long-wave end of the visible spectrum, seen by humans when energy reaches wavelengths of approximately 630 to 750 nm; any of a group of colors that may vary in lightness and saturation and whose hue resembles that of blood; one of the additive or light primaries; one of the psychological primary hues.

Define in own words what the color “red” means to you…

Red is a primary color. It is quite a contradictory color as it has connotations of passion, but also of violence. For me, red is a very in-your-face color. It is overwhelming. Red is eye-catching and beautiful. I wanted to explore the aggressive side of red. Red is seen as power, it is very assertive.

Define the color blue…

Blue is a color, our eyes are capable of perceiving the color blue when light predominantly consists of energy with a wavelength between 440-490 nm. Blue is a primary color opposite of yellow on the color wheel, which makes it its complimentary color. The perception of which is evoked by light having a spectrum dominated by energy with a wavelength of roughly 440–490 nm. Blue is a universal color that generates tranquillity and calmness. Culturally blue is significant in religious beliefs and is believed to keep evil spirits away. In Hinduism blue represents the chakra. Typically, blue is also representative of sombre emotion and sadness.

Define the meaning of color temperature…

“The color temperature of a light source is the temperature of an ideal black-body radiator that radiates light of comparable hue to that of the light source.” Color temperature is measured in the unit of absolute temperature, the Kelvin (K). What we know as cool colors (blue-white) have color temperatures of over 5,000 K. While warm colors (yellowy whiteàred) have lower color temperatures of 2,700-3,000 K.

Define in own words what the color “blue” means to you…

Blue is a primary color. It has connotations of sadness and melancholy. For me, blue also has an association with purity and life, merely because of what is the color of blue. The ocean is blue. Water is the substance of life; it allows us to survive. Often in literature water is used to symbolize rebirth with metaphorical representations of the womb as well as the cleansing ability of water to wash away impurity. Additionally, the sky is blue, a vast expanse of blue, which also gives blue a sense of liberation and happiness, because from our mere view on earth the sky in infinite. Lastly, I believe in most literature blue or soft blues are representations of the Virgin Mary, which reiterates the idea of the purity blue symbolizes. To me blue is a pretty color. It reminds me of my favorite room.
